The Investment Principle: If you know two different ways to achieve the same goal, you’ll usually start with the method you know best. Then, over time, that method may gain so much additional strength that you’ll tend to use it exclusively– even if you have been told that the other technique is the better one.
Thus, sometimes the obstacle to learning a new Way to Think is that one needs to endure the discomfort of many awkward or painful performances. So, one “secret of creativity” may be to develop the knack of enjoying that sort of unpleasantness!
